Passive infrared (PIR) sensor lights only illuminate when they detect motion. This helps you save on energy bills and conveniently light indoor and outdoor spaces.
What is a PIR sensor?
A passive infrared (PIR) sensor is a motion-based sensor that detects infrared from objects that emit heat. When it picks up the movement of people or objects, a PIR light goes on for a set amount of time.
What is the range of a PIR sensor?
At Electrical Supermarket, we carry PIR sensors with detection ranges of around 6-12m.
Can I adjust the detection range of my PIR motion sensor light?
While you can’t directly change the detection range of a PIR motion sensor light, you can angle it towards or away from the ground, wall or ceiling. This allows you to limit or extend the detection range to your ideal position.
Will an outdoor PIR sensor light deter burglars?
Installing an outdoor PIR sensor light is one of the most effective ways to protect your property against trespassing and theft. Some PIR sensor models can be set to only operate at night, helping you save on your energy bills.
My PIR light keeps turning on. What can I do?
PIR sensors detect moving sources of heat rather than the presence of objects. That means wind, direct sunlight and even glare from reflections can set them off. If this is a problem, you can adjust the position of your PIR light sensor or reduce the sensor sensitivity.
Where can I find product specifications?
Click on your preferred product, then click on the Specifications tab. This gives you information such as IP rating, angle of detection, adjustable light-on time, adjustable light level control and dimensions.
Do your products carry a warranty?
Our PIR motion sensor lights typically carry a warranty of 3-5 years.
How quickly does Electrical Supermarket deliver PIR sensors?
We do our best to deliver your order within 24-48 hours. If it’ll take longer, we’ll be in touch to let you know. Please read our delivery and returns policy for more information.
