Are bathroom lights different from other types of indoor lights?
Unlike most indoor lighting, bathroom lighting needs special protection against water to ensure it can function properly and safely. So bathroom lights are designed with specific ingress protection (IP) ratings that other types of residential lighting might not have.
What IP rating is required for bathroom lighting?
It’s recommended that bathroom lights have an IP rating of IP44 or higher. This ensures they won’t be damaged by foreign objects of 1mm or greater, and are protected against splashing water.
Some bathroom lighting requires higher ratings, however. For example, our bathroom wall and ground square lights typically have a rating of IP65. That means they’re dust-tight and protected against water jets to ensure safe use in a bathroom setting.
